IAUW seeks board members

Help make a difference in your community

Interlakes Area United Way (IAUW) is looking for volunteers to join its board of directors and help support local non-profits.

IAUW works with businesses and individuals to raise money and support programs that improve health, education, and economic mobility in Lake, Miner and Moody counties. The board helps run the organization and decides how funds are raised and shared with local non-profits.

Board members attend monthly meetings, assist with fundraisers, and participate in volunteer projects that can have profound local impact.

Melissa Dougan

“Most board members spend about two to four hours a month volunteering,” said IAUW Executive Director Melissa Dougan. “The time commitment is small, but it has a huge effect on our ability to help others.”

In 2024, IAUW awarded more than $134,000 to 27 non-profits in the region. These funds supported programs like the Delta Dental Mobile Program, which provides dental care to children ages 0-21 at no cost to the family, and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends free books to kids under the age of five.

Other grant recipients included Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership, Boys & Girls Club of Moody County, Valiant Living, Domestic Violence Network, Children’s Care Corner, High Plains Alternative School, The Salvation Army and more.

“We’re currently working toward our 2025 funding goals, with over $141,000 in requests from non-profits across the three counties,” Dougan said. “The more help we have on the board, the better we can meet those needs.”

Board members serve three-year terms. IAUW’s by-laws state there can be up to 15 members, but currently only nine seats are filled.

“We could really benefit from more helping hands to accomplish our goals,” Dougan said. “If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, joining the board is a great opportunity. You’ll be part of a team working to create positive change right here in this region.”

IAUW welcomes anyone passionate about making a difference in the community. To learn more about joining the board or to apply, click here or email director@interlakesunitedway.org.
