Through local partnerships and funding, we support programs that help children succeed in school, families stay healthy, and individuals achieve financial security.

What is Interlakes Area United Way (IAUW)?

IAUW brings people and resources together to improve lives and strengthen communities in Lake, Miner and Moody counties in southeastern South Dakota. We work with a diverse network of Community Partners to mobilize communities to action so all can thrive.

Together, we target key Impact Areas to create long-term, meaningful change: Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency.

 

Is IAUW local?

Yes. IAUW is locally governed and operated. Decisions about funding and community priorities are made by local volunteers and leaders who live and work in our service area.

 

Are all United Ways the same?

United Ways across the country share a common mission and brand, but each chapter is independent and focused on local needs. IAUW serves Lake, Miner, and Moody counties and invests donations directly into programs that help people in these communities.

Why should I give to IAUW?

Your gift supports multiple programs and services across our region with one donation. Instead of helping just one cause, your contribution helps strengthen the entire area and supports thousands of local residents each year.

 

How can I donate?

You can give to IAUW in several convenient ways:

  • Payroll Deduction: Make a small gift from each paycheck. This is easy, affordable, and adds up to make a big impact. Contact your employer or United Way to get started.
  • Online Giving: Donate securely online at interlakesunitedway.org.
  • Check or Cash: Mail donations to Interlakes Area United Way, PO Box 132, Madison, SD 57042.

 

Can I choose where my donation goes?

Not at this time. Gifts to IAUW are invested where community needs are greatest, at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

 

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes. IAUW is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and our Tax ID is 46-6015788. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Donors should consult their tax advisor for details. Email director@interlakesunitedway.org to request a donation receipt.

How are funds distributed?

IAUW uses an open annual application process for nonprofit partners seeking funding. The Allocations Committee recommends funding based on community impact and accountability. The Board of Directors approves final funding decisions.

 

What types of programs receive funding?

Programs that focus on one or more of our Impact Areas: Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency. All recipients must serve residents of Lake, Miner or Moody counties.

How can I get involved?

You can:

Businesses can:

  • Offer payroll deduction giving
